Marauder Ogre Chieftan

Well, here is my next rescue! Surely one of the best sculpts of this series. I acquired him with what is probably not one of the best paint jobs...but 24 hours in Dettol and all is good!

Here he is stripped back. Good as new!

Update time...his face is done and his character is coming out. Now I can see he has a six shooter pistol as an ear ring or maybe a brooch. I had never seen that detail before.

I must say I am glad this one is done! So much fiddley detail. It is difficult to shade over all the small surfaces that this slash-and-puff outfit has.

Marauder Ogre with cannon

Hey there, such a classic sculpt, love the imaginative use of the cannon especially.

The first pic is of the paint job I did 30 or so years ago. Stripes were all the rage back then!

So, paint stripped using Dettol and a white primer and I have made a start to his face. I use the Vallejo Fantasy Flesh set which took me a while to come to grips with but now I have a method I am happy with.

And a couple of progress pictures. Planning on yellow sleeves and black and yellow trousers...maybe with some stripes for old times sake!

And a couple of days later and he is finished! Stoked with how the gun came out. And stripey socks for old times sake.

More Dwarf Hammerers

These are the last of my Hammerers, there are a few I still don't have but I will get them one day. Once again  these are command group figures.

I paint each of these in about 2 to 3 hours, so not too drawn out a process.

My Experiments in NMM continue!

Next project - another Marauder ogre

This is my latest rescue project. I found this guy in a local hobby shop with the rest of the series so the two gaps I had in this set are now filled.

Two days soaking in Dettol sorted out the old paint and he is ready for a new lease of life.

The other gap in my collection was the Pirate hero. Saving him for last!

And a couple of days later, his personality is getting established. I am using the Vallejo fantasy flesh paint set plus some citadel inks. I changed over from oils to acrylics and I am glad I did. Work times are much faster and combined with a glazing medium, my painting has become much more satisfying.

And in no time at all, he is done! I particularly like Black and Yellow which are apparently the colours of Averland if that means anything to you...
NMM for the axe went pretty well, it has a rusty glaze that doesn't really show up in the photo. The photo also washes out some of the pink in his nose.

Another Dwarf Hero from Marauder

Here is another dwarf hammerer, also a champion but then all of these Marauder figures have such character that most of them could lead a unit of rank and file on any table. He is part of the original MM10/6 series which later became MM11 command pack but it seems he was ousted from this group by some other very nice models in later advertisements.

This is a figure I attempted NMM gold on, but wasn't really happy with it. Despite my painting, he is still a favourite. Love his bald head and round nose.

Marauder Dwarf Hammerer hero

Another great character and the first dwarf I thought I would share. I am particularly happy with his beard which, let's face it, is most of the figure! Iwas going for a granite-look hammer head and NMM armour. I still like metallic gold alongside the NMM steel, and the reddish flush to his nose adds a little life to a face which is mostly hidden.

I also prefer black edges to my bases, I feel it frames the figure. Green or brown bases seem to be trying to hide something...but always very unsuccessfuly.

Marauder Minis...making a start.

Well, I guess this is a bit of a retrospective but I wanted to post some pics of my Marauder minis in a blog format so here goes. When I saw the Marauder Miniatures in the 1980's I felt they were the pinnacle of the Warhammer art. I still do. Even though I own a number of the more recent plastic figures from classics like Space Hulk and Bloodbowl, I still consider the Marauder minis to be the best characters of the genre. I particularly like the dwarves and ogres and I own almost all of these that were produced..but still have some gaps that I hope to fill. So first up, I thought I would post one of my all time favourites...never mind the mismatched hands; this is one of their best. The severed head behind the sword tip is an interesting detail and the 'Empire' style lends itself to some nice colour combinations.

I picked him up in this state...no golden demon winner here...but a bad paint job still protects the figure!

And after a repaint...NMM is still a challenge but there was plenty to practice on here.

Dwarf militia

If I sound like a broken record when I go on about the character of these figures it is because it really defines this era. Oldhammer has i...
